With an expected £25.1 million spent on pumpkins in the UK last year, Halloween is swiftly becoming one of the nation’s favourite commercial festivals, with costume shops in every city and candy littering people’s doorsteps. While the festival originates from Celtic culture and derives its name from Christianity, All Hallows Eve, or more affectionately: ‘Halloween’, has grown to be a very popular festival in both the UK and the US over the past couple of decades, carved pumpkins and bowls of candy a staple in suburban households and city apartments alike. Dia de los Muertos is also fast approaching, the Mexican festival to honour the dead taking place from the 31st of October to the 2nd of November, a strong contrast to the anti-spirit nature of our Halloween festival.
